Slimjet 39 Support for Windows 7 and/or 8.1?
Slimjet 39 Support for Windows 7 and/or 8.1?
Does it or doesn’t it? That is the question! It’s based on Chromium 110, so it would be a feat for the developers.

Mostly my replies are about Windows OS. If not I try to remember to specify Linux.

Thanks for replying, but 39.0 Beta does not seem to run on Windows 7 due to missing dependencies.

I bounced it off the developer. He says Chromium 111 (which is what Beta 39 is running) does not support Windows 7 or 8. I suggested that he update the download webpage compatibility information.
So Windows 7 & 8 users will be stuck at Slimjet ver 38

Catsxp has managed to get 110, 111, and 112 working on Windows 7 so why not incorporate what they did into Slimjet? Makes sense to me

Catsxp is not open-source (it's just a freeware), moreover Catsxp is based on the Brave browser, not directly on Chromium, so you'll understand that it's difficult to integrate Catsxp work on Slimjet

I think that developers don't have only that to do, to make fiddles on the heart of chromium with each update of Chromium, visibly the developer was "traumatized" by his attempt to support Windows XP on Slimjet 12 : https://www.slimjet.com/blog/xp-support ... limjet-12/looking man wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 1:53 amBecause nobody wants to work. It's easier to do nothing. This is what most developers do. They just stupidly update the core of Chromium.
Why bother with anything else?!![]()

Oh yes, they do have experience, one of the Slimjet developers has a PhD in electrical engineering! Very easy to judge people quickly!looking man wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 1:57 amModern developers have no knowledge, no strength, no experience, no desire.![]()

Well, why is it fast?
The developers did something only up to version 14-15. All! Now only the engine is being updated. No one wants to tinker with the kernel and fix Google's crap. And it's not just Slimjet. Almost in the overwhelming majority of chrome assemblies. What's the point of having dozens of identical chromoclones?
Or maybe it's not the same developers?

Google only does what it takes to remove and cut out the necessary and useful things, and add tons of unnecessary crap. Each next version gets worse than the previous one.
And all amicably and joyfully all repeat after him.
