Great concept for a Chromium fork
Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
Interesting, but it doesn't even let you set your own default search engine. Opera went that way toward the end of Presto, and I found it unacceptable.
Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
Aviator is a little controlling, but the idea is privacy and security. Epic is ok, but I feel the project is dead and last used their browser it was on out of date. Plus it was way to slow for me.
Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
Its not for everybody and certainly not for an average user, its more for paranoid users who tend to be browsing stuff that's bit naughtypaul1149 wrote:Interesting, but it doesn't even let you set your own default search engine. Its updated as much as slimjet is and slowness is because its so locked into being secure without leaking information about the user, its not really to me for everyday surfing of the web. Its the lack of having the option to use extensions if you want that bother's me about it but i suppose that would defeat the soul purpose of the browser.LimboSlam wrote:Aviator is a little controlling, but the idea is privacy and security. Its a bit similar to the Tor browser or pirate bay browser. It will be interesting how firefox is once they have implemented Tor.
Yandex have a alpha release which is very minimalistic https://browser.yandex.com/future/ They have removed nearly all interface elements. You don't see an address bar on launch for example and tabs are also not visible.
The browser displays a search form on launch and a list of speed dial tiles. Window controls and the main menu icon are at the top right and an x indicates the tab bar at the bottom of the page.
Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
I tried the first release of Aviator and I did not was impressed at all. It is just pure Chromium with some checked security and privacy options. Nothing more.
I don't like net installers because I want to know what I am installing (always prefer portable packages) so I did not ever tried Epic. Not for me, I think it is for newbies who don't use extensions.
I do not trust Yandex as I do not trust Google- the reasons are obvious
The first thing when I run Chromium based browser is to install µMatrix - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/deta ... f?hl=en-US , former HTTP Switchboard - The Best security extension you could ever imagined. Forget about the other security extensions - nothing can compare with power of µMatrix. I would recommend to the developers of Slimjet to consider their great browser with preinstalled µMatrix or µBlock (from the same developer)
.
So, my hopes with browsers now are all about Slimjet and Otter browser - Slimjet first and Otter second

I use ublock its by far the lightest adblocker out there plus u don't have to go searching for every adblock list out there as most are available in built.Дядо Ники wrote:I tried the first release of Aviator and I did not was impressed at all. Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
µBlock is great and very easy for use, but there is an important difference between µBlock and µMatrix :dev wrote: I use ublock its by far the lightest adblocker out there plus u don't have to go searching for every adblock list out there as most are available in built.
µMatrix is more hardcore when it comes to block net requests from undesirable remote servers: when a hostname is blacklisted, even the root document will be prevented from downloading, while µBlock will only block secondary resources -- as per ABP-filter semantic - https://github.com/gorhill/uMatrix/wiki ... 2%B5Matrix
So with µMatrix you have flexible and complete control on webpages content:

But, you are right - µBlock is much more appropriate for a broader scope of users.
Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
uBlock seems awesome. It seems to solve a massive slowness problem I've had with SJ. Very well-written code and interface. Thanks!
uMatrix also looks excellent. Have to examine it.

You may want to read all of thispaul1149 wrote: uMatrix also looks excellent. Have to examine it.

and this specific changes:

Once you understand the logic and power of uMatrix you will love it, I am sure

See what it is looks in terms of blocking:

Just use the extensions Privacy Badger and WOT and you should be good on security, but then I use those on any browser I use, Slimjet is the Best of all the Chromium Forksdev wrote:The most secure is https://epicbrowser.com/, they only allow a few trusted extensions to be installed to help with security. I like the idea of a secure package off the shelf.

Re: Great concept for a Chromium fork
WOT is the biggest sham out there, its offers no real security and its just way to censor the web. Just do a quick search if you don't believe me. For example: http://mywotlies.wordpress.com/Colder Winters wrote:Just use the extensions Privacy Badger and WOT and you should be good on security, but then I use those on any browser I use, Slimjet is the Best of all the Chromium Forksdev wrote:The most secure is https://epicbrowser.com/, they only allow a few trusted extensions to be installed to help with security. Mate if I was you i would uninstall WOT plugin because it just does nothing and its a waste of memory usage. Now badger is great mainly because its the Electronic Frontier Foundation plugin but in saying that it hasn't got as many filters as say ghostery has because its still in its early days of development.
I run slimjet with ublock with Fanboy+Easylist-Merged Ultimate List in conjunction with ghostery, I only run these to speedup general web browsing. I also run HTTPS Everywhere (Electronic Frontier Foundation) which is good once you've configured it to your own web habits. If people are worried about who is spying on them (companies etc) Tor browser is the only route to go without a VPN for full anonymity.
I run firefox with similar plugins but i do use Noscript which is very similar to umatrix but both plugins do take time to configure for your own use.
One thing that slimjet could gain from would be a inbuilt user agent switcher.
