Can't edit speed dials on New Tab page

Can't edit speed dials on New Tab page
I'm using Slimjet with Xubuntu 14.04 LTS. When the New Tab page comes up the speed dials are black and I am unable to add URLs to them or edit them in any way. Has anyone else had this issue and maybe found an answer?

a problem related with continue where you left off option
there are a error in first start for "continue where you left off" coming wih 9.0.1 update
Modern new tab
FVD speed dial
Speed dial 2 etc.
Many speed dial add-on give error first in start
for now return 8.0.5

I tested no problem for Google Chrome

Uninstalled 9.0.1 and all of its data and settings then installed 8.0.5 and still having the same issue.
