There is an issue for those of us trying to run Slimjet with the latest releases of Linux Mint (19) and possibly with Ubuntu too. The issue revolves around libcurl3 / libcurl4. The discussion in described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... ug/1754294
There is a workaround for Slimjet described here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... omments/55
I can confirm that the wrkaround works on Linux Mint 19 Cinnamon.
Would it be possible for the developer to change the reference to "libcurl3" within the control file of the .deb package so that the reference reads "libcurl3|libcurl4" which would avoid the need to make the change locally?

Re: libcurl issue
I've sent this suggestion to the developer on your behalf.

Mostly my replies are about Windows OS. If not I try to remember to specify Linux.

Re: libcurl issue
Thanks to all concerned, the latest release of Slimjet does solve the "libcurl" issue on Linux Mint and Ubuntu.
