Hangouts extension keeps closing

I'm not sure if this is a SJ bug or Hangouts'.
I'm trying to use Hangouts extension in Slimjet (latest versions as of today). I also use Hangouts on my phone.
The extension seems to work Ok but if it stays in the background for few hours (SJ is closed in the meantime, not currently my default browser), it just disappears, the slimjet processes disappear from task manager as well. I'm not sure if it crashes or what.
This makes Hangouts impossible to use.
Do I have to test with Chrome, or this is something someone else is encountering in SJ as well?

Windows 7 x64, 32-bit Slimjet.

Run Slimjet, with only one tab, go to hangouts and leave that instance of Slimjet running with just one tab. Run Slimjet again as a new separate instance of Slimjet for your other browsing needs. See if that helps.

I may try but as I said, SJ is not currently my default browser. I want to run Hangouts though, 24/7, and only use SJ as a secondary browser for some sites.
I ran Hangouts (last versions) in a Chrome environment (the same case - with Chrome closed) overnight in a virtual machine. This morning I see Hangouts is still active, after 9-10 hours in the background.
I guess it is not 100% compatible with SJ and I'll have to install Chrome. Still, I may try your suggestion, if SJ is running as a separate window with an empty tab, to see if Hangouts will persist.

I was also thinking you could try converting the hangouts tab to an app window.

I'm not sure how is this done (if needed) but the hangouts window is detached from the browser, it appears in the taskbar as a separate window. It is an extension in Settings - Extensions. I can close the browser window and Hangouts is still there. I think it runs as an extension but detached. Is this called 'app window'?

I'm not sure what you did, but when I use an app window I right click an open Tab and select/click, "convert to app window".

I did nothing. It was a regular Slimjet installation (or Chrome one in a VMachine), then in Settings - Extensions I installed Hangouts. When I click the toolbar button in Slimjet/Chrome, a new window (in the taskbar) opens with Hangouts and contact list loads inside. That's it.
In the same environment, in Chrome, Hangouts stays open for at least 12 hours. I'll install Chrome on my machine and will test if Hangouts stays open for longer. But in SJ it closed 3 times for 5-6 days with no indication, just at some moment I look at the tray area and Hangouts is missing.

I've not used Hangouts. I thought it was associated with a webpage.

Just to confirm that with Chrome there is no problem and Hangouts stays open without being "killed" by something while in background/idle after few hours.
I'll put up with the few Chrome lacks and customizations for the better stability for now, SJ has its own bugs and quirks. For example SJ's "smooth" scrolling feels buggy - it is not so smooth 50% of the time.
