7.0.3 - 7.0.7 x64 Linux (.deb) won't open
Re: 7.0.3, 7.0.4 (x64 .deb) won't open
I suggest you give linux lite a try, on an extra machine or in a virtual box. It strives to be an easy step-off from Windows, and while some learning curve is unavoidable, IMV it succeeds very well. Solid as a rock, much like Win7, with performance rivaling XP on older hardware. I seldom need the command line. And updates are simple. At the same time, I don't like the intrusive subscription path MS is going down (never liked MS's licensing terms anyway, and few would if they knew what they actually are).
I hope this problem is fixed soon.

The tar.xz version is very easy to install. Just type "tar xvf slimjet_amd64.tar.xz" in the terminal window. You can put it in whatever folder you like. If you don't like it, just remove the folder is all.

edit: and also how to uninstall it if it doesn't work.

Thanks, but didn't help.
Re: 7.0.3, 7.0.4, 7.0.5 (x64 .deb) won't open
Problem continues.
Re: 7.0.3, 7.0.4, 7.0.5 (x64 .deb) won't open
This problem has continued, even to today's 7.0.7 release.
Meanwhile I set up a virtualbox of Linux Lite 2.8, although x32 is the only virtual bittage I can run on this hardware. Slimjet ran perfectly there. So I concluded that most probably the problem is in the install on my system.
So finally I asked over at the Linux Lite forum, and within half an hour got my answer. You can see the thread here.
Essentially, rename the slimjet folder under <user>/.config, forcing slimjet to create a new one upon opening. Now close Slimjet and copy your profiles over to the new slimjet folder. All your personalizations should be restored. I'm holding onto the old slimjet folder for a while, though, just in case.

I tried the 64bit .deb file and also the tarball. This is using a fresh install of Linux Mint Rosa 17.3 x64. I also had a similar error on my previous installation (yesterday), Ubuntu Mate 14.04 (?) x64. Only thing I have from my previous system is my /home, mounted from a separate partition. The rest is a completely fresh install of Mint as I say.
I've regressed 7.01 (using 64bit .deb), and all seems fine so far.
Sorry, just catching up with the thread. I had already tried using the tar file, and also get "segmentation fault" when running Slimjet from a terminal. I've tried both the 64bit .deb and the tar file for the latest stable release 7.08. With both I get the same fault message. With the tar file, I unpacked twice and just ran the flashpeak-slimjet file. It prompted me to run as superuser, which I did, then the segmentation fault error. With the .deb file it creates an icon, but SJ won't run from it, so I try the command flashpeak-slimjet and get the same segmentation fault error.
Re: [Solved] 7.0.3 - 7.0.7 x64 Linux (.deb) won't open
And when you tried the solution I gave...?

Sorry, Paul I'm not sure how I messed your thread - I blame tiredness. I started afresh a renamed the ~/.config/slimjet/ folder as suggested and bingo.
Sorry if I hijacked you're thread. I still think there's work to be done by Flashpeak though. The user shouldn't have to mess about with that stuff just to upgrade from a package file in my humble opinion. Anyway, back in business - thanks.
EDIT: I spoke too soon! It started up fine, but then crashed subsequently (same error as before). I had immediately gone into the settings and changed stuff. So I wiped the config folder and started again, this time altering settings partially each time (including importing bookmarks /history etc from FF). I'm not sure why but it opens fine for the time being. I did get these errors in the terminal between starts (and settings being set):
Code: Select all
ade@ade-Satellite-A500 ~ $ flashpeak-slimjet

NP. I've removed the Solved label.
Is that a .deb install? You might do better with the .deb package. Just a guess.
Something must have changed with 7.0.3, perhaps in the underlying Chromium engine. But your experience with changing settings is interesting. Also consider any extensions you installed.
There have been a few of us with this experience. It would be nice, IME, if admin would weigh in with some guidance.

A user at PC Pitstop posted this
If any of you are having an issue with Chrome / Chromium after the latest round of Kernel updates you can run it from terminal with:
/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable %U --disable-namespace-sandbox
Alternative is roll back the kernel until a fix is published.
