Having the same problem on two machines. No changes to the OS or security software. I opened on one machine, it started then closed and never opened again. I have uninstalled/reinstall on both machines and still nothing. I have even tried installing using the newest beta version... still nothing.

Just tried the suggestions regarding "Setting Slimjet to default", but no effect.

Then turned on another PC (Win 10/Home ver.) that I only use occasionally, (Last used about 10 days ago, so it's fairly up to date, just slow). BTW-didn't mention earlier that my main PC is Win 10 Pro.

Slimjet started up, loaded a few tabs I had saved, then it shut down by itself. Tried to start it again, and it now fails to load as well.

The only response is after the icon is clicked, a small blue circle appears for only a second or two, then nothing. (Same on my main PC, but shorter duration, as it's a much faster machine).

So it's recognizing and responding to the mouse click, but something is preventing it from loading.

It seems like Google sync issue.
After deleting everything from Slimjet user profile folder, it opens well.
However, with sync on, it doesn't open again.

I have Google Sync turned off so it cannot be solely caused by that. I don't even have a Google account.

Please keep in mind. You cannot troubleshoot a Linux box and a Windows box from the same reference point.

Mostly my replies are about Windows OS. If not I try to remember to specify Linux.

I too have Google Sync turned off, so it's not that.

HOWEVER.....After seeing Pnaralove's post above, I renamed the "User Data" folder to XUser Data (Users > your name > AppData > Local > Slimjet) and Slimjet opened, albeit as if it was a FRESH install with absolutely no user customizations or changes you might have made or added along the way.

Reverting the name back again to the original "USER DATA" folder causes it to not load at all again.

But, it's a "clue" as to what's wrong.

For Windows. I'm thinking the problem may be related to internet interaction in some way. In the last few weeks I have had problems with browsers refusing to start until I restart the PC (I'm also resetting my modem/router), and yes that is Plural on browsers, not just Slimjet. My cable provider is saying there is a hardware issue that they have to fix somewhere out there with no specific fix date provided. The explanation was somewhat lacking.

But my point is, I do think this issue is connectivity related in some way. Pretty much every browser, when you first start it, is going to check if the internet has connectivity and many will phone home for something (not necessarily nefarious things, some will check for updates).

So I am thinking it is possible the chromium engine itself (not the Slimjet code using it) has a bug that becomes an issue when there is a connectivity problem.

I also think this is exacerbated, or even initiated, by a recent Windows update. However, with Linux boxes experiencing similar browser startup issue, that is far less certain.

I've just today successfully updated to Beta 44. And I have not experienced the issue yet. So I'm going to wait for that to happen or not. Not much else I can think of to do from the User angle.

Bad data in the user profile can cause many problems. Let us hope the root cause for all of us is not a problem with the browser handling user data.

I was actually experiencing the same issue myself today. It is related to the weather feature. Type chrome://open_profile_folder into the address bar and press enter. then switch into the default folder. Delete the file weather_icon.png. Then Slimjet should be able to startup. But once it loads, you need remove the weather button from the toolbar for now. Otherwise, next time it updates to a sunny weather icon, the browser will crash. We are still working on a fix.

That was a nasty one. Removing the weather_icon.png file and starting the application only gave me a few seconds before it recreated the png file and crashed again. It wasn't enough time to remove the weather icon from the toolbar. I was dropping in other png files and naming them weather_icon.png but that wasn't working either. Then on about my 10th try, the sunny icon showed up and the browser is currently still running. Looks like you have just fixed the problem. Glad the fix didn't require a new build.

EDIT: Spoke too soon. It just started crashing again, and after deleting the png files, it doesn't stay open long enough for me to remove the weather button from the toolbar.
