7.0.3 - 7.0.7 x64 Linux (.deb) won't open

I installed SJ 7.0.3 x64 on my Linux Lite (.deb) machine. Seemed to go perfectly. Looked at some settings, then clicked Minimize. Instead the program closed, no processes running, and would not reopen, trying two profiles, even after a reboot. A reinstall did nothing. Uninstalled, installed 7.0.1, which seems to be fine. No crash dump present.

7.0.4 won't open either. Back to 7.0.1 again.

Same here. I'm a new user. I get a "Segmentation fault" when running the installer. I tried the 64bit .deb file and also the tarball. This is using a fresh install of Linux Mint Rosa 17.3 x64. I also had a similar error on my previous installation (yesterday), Ubuntu Mate 14.04 (?) x64. Only thing I have from my previous system is my /home, mounted from a separate partition. The rest is a completely fresh install of Mint as I say.
I've regressed 7.01 (using 64bit .deb), and all seems fine so far.

The deb package doesn't install properly on linux lite. Please try the tar.xz package instead. I tried the tar.xz package on linux lite 2.6 64bit and it works fine.

Can you also try the tar.xz package?

Thank you. Could someone run through the correct install procedure for tar.xz? I want this to end up in the correct folder, and not to mess up my system.
edit: and also how to uninstall it if it doesn't work.

I'm not versed in Linux but there is a long discussion at the Puppy Linux forum talking about installing Slimjet, I didn't find anything useful on the Linux Lite forum.

Thanks. It's too complicated for me, and I don't understand how the install - or maybe it's only a portable extraction - would relate to the existing SJ install. I'd rather wait until this problem is solved - assuming it is going to be solved. Everything was fine here for a long time until v 7.0.3.

From my perspective everything about Linux is too complicated. I'd switch in a heartbeat to Linux from crap-o-soft if I could use it without having to think (i.e. have a masters degree in Linux to use it)
