slimjet 36.0.2.0 linux version youtube videos not loading

I just tried a fresh install of Zorin OS 16.2 (Linux 5.15.0-69-generic #76~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 20 15:54:19 UTC 2023 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux) with the latest Slimjet (Version 38.0.8.0 (based on Chromium 109.0.5414.74) (Official Build) (64-bit)) and it looks like it's back to the error state from October 2022, meaning many videos can be played, but not all.
I just tested again the 2 videos below and the error status is the same (first video does not play at all, whereas the second does play fine).
Note that the first video has not problem playing in any other browser...

Both of those play for me.

Slimjet Version 39.0.1.0 (based on Chromium 111.0.5563.41) - Kernel version still as in previous post.

I'm still using libffmpeg 0.66.0

Finally, thanks! I upgraded to Slimjet 39.0.1.0, then downgraded my libffmpeg.so to 0.66, and now it does work!

Hopefully we'll reach the level where each slimjet upgrade is packaged or at least referring to the proper compatible libffmpeg.so version.

I don't think they can package libffmpeg with Slimjet for legal reasons, but including a readme.txt (or a message when you first start the browser) telling you which version of the library it's built for would be very helpful.

I've tarballed my Slimjet program directory (/opt/programs/slimjet/), and also the profile files (~/.config/slimjet/), so I can at least roll back very easily if a new version breaks something.

And to complete the legal part of the thing, the libffmpeg file comes from a project that is licensed under the GPL v2 ( https://github.com/nwjs-ffmpeg-prebuilt ... er/LICENSE ) which is a free "CopyLeft" license, the problem is that if the developer would have included this file in Slimjet, he would have been forced to put Slimjet under the same license as the libffmpeg file (GPL v2)

I have done this and there is still no response. It is not only YouTube videos that don't work with versions greater than 35.0.3, but videos on sites such as news sites.

Why is this happening with Linux?

It's happening with Windows installs too.

Yes the issue is not so much about the libffmpeg.so having to be installed separately.
The issue is that the compatible version of libffmpeg.so is not properly referenced on this page: https://www.slimjet.com/en/libffmpeg.php, hence the recurring bugs with videos when slimjet is updated.

I'm still with this Slimjet 39.0.1.0 + libffmpeg.so 0.66 setup, I'm going to try and update Slimjet and maybe try a newer libffmpeg.so if needed...
I'd like to avoid being so late in the chromium version of my slimjet by updating it more often, but this libffmpeg bug is so problematic that I try to avoid losing too much time with these updates and end up waiting too long.

They've broken it again.

Version 40.0.2.0 (based on Chromium 114.0.5735.16) is giving me an 'Aw, Snap' for every video site I've tried.

Using the recommended limffmpeg 0.72.0

Did you manage to find a working libffmpeg version for slimjet 40?

Try using 114 from this collection. When Slimjet updates the Chromium version in use you would need to revisit for the new version.
