Had to sync w/chrome in order to transfer bookmarks, is it possible to Stop Google from acquiring data?

not if your going to use google sync .....best way is export your bookmarks to html from old browser then import them into slimjet ....slimjet://bookmarks/#1 click the three dots on the right ..import bookmarks
