issues and first impression

Post by robizeratul »

first, I have XP and I downloaded this only yesterday, I don't know what version it is.

I like this browser a lot, I have a very low end machine and its faster than chrome. There are some problems though:

1)videos don't work. If I open a mp4 in a new tab it doesn't work, web.m works. I also can't manage to make videos work on other websites. I have disable flash ( even with it, it doesn't do anything) and tried to make it work with html5 just like on chrome. It doesn't work. Youtube does(EDIT: was wrong, youtube doesn't work. I go to the HTML options page and it shows me H264 and MSEh264 as red, others are blue. There's an OK on "the html5 player is currently used when possible")EDIT2: seems like sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't...I have no clue what's happening., but others don't. I have tried many websites, from porn websites like xhamster, xvideos etc to other video website, doesn't work. Sometimes I can "open" the video in a new tab but it doesn't play, the "start"button is "hollowed out"...Don't know how to fix it.

2)downloads don't work. at lest from some websites like keepvid and other file sharing websites. I have tried both with the download manager and without. With the download maneger I am able to restart the download again and again until it's done. Usually it works for a few minutes and it stops. I downloaded a 200mb file at 250 kbs, It stopped maybe 20+ times, I had to click again and again on "go".

These are the problems, now suggestions:

1)the download maneger needs some "quality of life" features. For example I want to hide it when I am downloading somehting, or to minimize it. There should be a simple button to do just that. Click it and show just a total % of the file downloads(if multiple) and let me open it. Should be nice to have an option to fade out, so the download starts and I see it there but after 5/10(whatever) sec it dissapears.

When I open it, I would like to sort downloads by many metrics. When I click on "speed" would be nice to have a dynamic list. Give em the option to move them up or down, maybe

2)The youtube downloader is lacking support. check out youtubemultidownloader. It has way more options. you normally can download 360p and 720p, for whatever reason 480 is not available from many youtube download sites without splitting the video and audio. Some websites however like the one I mentioned offer this feature.

3)fix "ERR_SSL_VERSION_OR_CIPHER_MISMATCH Unsupported protocol
The client and server don't support a common SSL protocol version or cipher suite. This is likely to be caused when the server needs RC4, which is no longer considered secure." . I have tried many methods but I can't get it to work. I can't disable those damn protocols or whatever, really hate google for doing this. I have to use mozilla to use certain websites...From what I have read they added this "feature" in chrome 45 or arround that time.

4)make a comprehensive user guide. This is one thing your browser and many others lack. This could put you above the competition and it wouldn't be hard to do. Basically do a full instalation and feature guide for newbies or those who don't want to bother with all of this. Make it long, offer normal/advanced/expert options. Basically make it a visual guide, let me choose each option and explain it clearly. Use screenshots or videos if neccesary. To give you 2 simple examples, I liked the chrome look for tabs, I want it back. How do i do that? I also don't like that little space in the left size of the tabs. I want it gone. How do I do that? Maybe I can figure out these things...but going trough a guide, even if it takes 30/60 min to do it properly would make using your browser much more fun...

Hope this helps. I am trying to fix the videos(my main issue), if I can't I will have to change my browser again. I made this post however because I really like what you guys are doing, hope this is helpful and sorry for my not so stellar English.

Make sure you were directed to install version 10.x.x.x for your XP OS. Beyond that support for XP and Vista has ended.

There is an online manual accessible by linkage from the Help menu or under support at the slimjet website. It does not present exactly as you suggested, but it does the basic job of providing knowledge about the browser.
