Unfortunately that did not work for me on Linux. Hopefully 44.0.6.0 will show up for us soon. In the meantime I've had to install another browser to take its place.FrantsSrebrin wrote: ↑Mon Oct 28, 2024 5:50 am...It's all because of "Utility: Passage Embeddings Service". Possibly.
Open the browser task manager and you'll see it.
There are already several threads about this here.

They advise disabling - slimjet:flags -> History Embeddings -> Disabled.
I disabled it yesterday and everything is fine for now.
I don't know how correct this decision is in general. I don't understand such subtleties.

Re: Suddely keeps crashing without any changes
Same here, I'm actually on Thorium right now instead of Slimjet... so far not bad, its Chromium version lag is better than Slimjet's and I was able to add 2 extensions for Ctrl+Q (last tab) and mouse gestures... And it doesn't have Slimjet's issues with CPU and tab preloading! Which is a major win for Thorium. However I miss Slimjet's security/privacy built-in features.... (which were getting less and less reliable because of the lag on Chromium version)
It looks like I'm not going back to Slimjet unless I see major improvements soon.

Updated to version 44.0.6.0, browser doesn't crash anymore.
But now there's another problem, after the update my laptopfan started to make a lot of noise,
checked the taskmanager and Slimjet is constantly taking up more than 17% of the processor
and now and then over 20%.
Even if I have only 2 or three tabs open processor usage is high.
That's not good, before the last update never a problem, also when i use a version of dec. 2023
no problem.
Open the browser task manager and you'll see it.

Oh-oh, random crash report on new startup today again after normal closure without crash. Pinned Tabs were gone.
Restored pinned tabs, closed browser properly, started browser again - random crash report. So far browser is still running, but WTF is that now again?
And download is extremely slow, just trying to download a 122 MB file for a programme update and browser says 3 hours that will take. That's something I have noticed in the defect versions before this, too. Edge needed only a few seconds to downoad this file on the same machine and connection.

Re: Suddely keeps crashing without any changes
One odd thing I noticed this morning was SJ on this laptop telling me there was an update... to ver. 44.0.6.0. Odd because this is one of the two laptops I wrote about previously, and had definitely been updated to that version.
What precipitated it was an attempt to understand why SJ doesn't group together on the Windows 11 taskbar, while all other apps do. In testing, I deleted the shortcut that was pinned to the taskbar, went into apps, right-clicked on SJ and chose Pin To Taskbar. When I launched SJ from the new pinned shortcut I almost immediately got the message that an update was available. Before applying the update I check About and sure enough SJ was at ver. 44.0.5.0.
That said, and back on topic, I've been using it a bit today, and no crashes so far.

Re: Suddely keeps crashing without any changes
Now this is odd, and may be related to whar you notice:
I use the programme Taskbar Groups for ages, one group contains all my browsers, Slimjet was always one of them in there, and I never had problems. After the big crash on weekend, I deleted the shortcuts to the defect versions of Slimjet from the Taskbar Group, but before adding the updated version of Slimjet (44.0.6) I waited a few days to test whether it really runs properly. It did, so today after starting my computer I decided to add Slimjet to Taskbar Groups again, did so, started Slimjet and got the random crash notice I posted above. Deleted it from Taskbar Groups again, and it starts normal. This is really strange, as the Browser Taskbar-Group contains the same shortcut contained in the Desktop folder "Browsers".

Yes, quite odd. I don't run any 3rd party apps to tweak Windows. Sounds like some strange interaction between SJ and Taskbar Groups. Could report it to those developers, too, I suppose.
Re: Suddely keeps crashing without any changes
That's nothing to tweak Windows. I need more icons pinned to the taskbar than is space there, so this helps groupng the icons to save space.

Well, anything not from M$ that changes the way a key element of Windows works is, by definition, a tweak to Windows.
But regardless, good luck!
