Hello Stephan, thank you for figuring out the problem.
However, I'm at a bit of a loss on how to follow your directions; can you explain?
EDIT: I'm good now, found the file via File Explorer: (C: > Users > your name > AppData > Local > Slimjet > User Data > Default) and found the Weather_icon.png file and renamed it. I also found another one right below it: Weather_icon_new.png and renamed it as well.
Slimjet opened normally with all my settings intact. I quickly deleted the weather button and it's opened several times now.
However....I still have the problem that clicking on the taskbar icon brings up a the usual window you get when doing a software install (Do you want to allow this app to make changes to this device)? Clicking "YES" then loads Slimjet.
Perhaps running the install routine again will correct that?
Thank you.

I am running Windows 10. For me the *.png files are located here:
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Slimjet\User Data\Default\
Deleting them allows me to start Slimjet, briefly, but then it recreates new *.png files and then crashes immediately. This happens too quickly to remove the weather button from my toolbar. However, after a number of tries, the weather button's icon finally showed up and the browser stopped crashing, for a while. I thought Stephen had implemented a fix at that point. I was then able to remove the weather button from my toolbar. After about 30 mins however, the browser crashed again even with the weather button gone. Right now, if I continue to remove the *.png files, the browser briefly restarts but then disappears again after a few seconds, even though the weather button is hidden.
So I have no idea where to narrow down the problem at the moment. It appears there is a bug related to the weather API Slimjet uses though, and we appear to be at the mercy of Stephen Cheng and a hopefully imminent fix. Until then Slimjet is dead in the water it seems.

I have the same problem as RayLoobzer.
Renamed the weather.png's and slimjet was working for a while but after closing and starting it again it keeps crashing because every time it creates
new weather.png's
Hope it can be solved.
Thanks

Renamed the 2 Weather .PNG files last night. Slimjet opened and I was able to remove the Weather App button.
Slimjet opened ok this morning, now running for about 6 hours with no problems. I did notice that 2 NEW Weather .PNG files were created, so not sure why the original ones caused the problem. They must've gotten corrupted somehow?
Only issue remaining for me is I when I start Slimjet, I still get the standard "nag" when installing new programs: (Do you want to allow this App to make changes to this device?)
Obviously that started when I tried re-installing Slimjet yesterday to try to fix the problem. I suppose I'll try to re-install again; hopefully that fixes that little issue. If not, I'll try uninstalling and reinstalling. Can someone confirm that I won't loose my settings and customizations by uninstalling? (Although I'm pretty sure there's a check box to save or delete user data).
May also be prudent to not do anything until the developer comes up with the proper fix for the "no start up" anomaly.

I have a same issue from this yesterday [8/17/2024]. My wife's laptop Windows 10 also has Slimjet stop working as of today [8/18/2024].
Neither my desktop nor her laptop can get Slimjet to even start.
This is not first time having this kind of issue though.
Have you restarted your OS? YES - 3 times since yesterday.
What OS are your running? Windows 11
my wife's laptop Windows 10
Which version of Slimjet do you have installed? 43.0.7.0
Did anything at all happen when you attempted to run Slimjet? Nothing happens except a quick showing of the hour glass when I try to open
Have you installed any security programs of any kind recently? Only MS framework and related features.
Do you have another browser that ran just fine? Yes my Edge works.
What's worst is my Gmail doesn't recognize my password on my desktop, but from my Android phone it works fine.

Just a confirmation from the Linux side of things that deleting the "weather_icon.png" and "weather_icon_new.png" files from the "/home/<USERNAME>/.config/slimjet/Default" folder does allow Slimjet to launch for a few seconds before shutting itself down.
Unfortunately not long enough to remove the toolbar button, but long enough to see the "Restore last session" prompt is displaying. As with the Windows feedback, the two image files are also recreated in the profile folder.

The issue has been fixed in 43.0.8. Please update. The third-party weather API returns a webp image format even if the file name says PNG and thus caused an unexpected crash.

I've been researching all day and found that Chrome is having similar issues.
I'm thinking the underlying Chromium has the beginning of this issue and could be based on OS like Windows. I haven't found any reports for Linux type systems failing to load.
What is annoying why Flashpeak can't back up a couple of versions (regardless if they lose new 'features') and actually tested the previous two releases before sending them out as 'new updates'.
I do know the release before this one started causing my Slimjet to stop working with my 1st Slimjet instance while my smaller instance of Slimjet did work (only has 3 links). The 1st instance of Slimjet has about 12 different links I use daily).
