That page works fine for me. Before you replaced the slimjet libffmpeg with the chromium one, did you install chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra first? If not, try that. Remember to reboot after.

I should add that Ubuntu often displays an error popup when I get the Aw, Snap error, as if Slimjet closed (actually it does NOT close). Here's the error:

Here's the error log from /var/log/apport.log:

You never said if you tried this or not. If not, please do. I installed chromium & the 'extra' together from my package manager. Rebooted, replaced the slimjet libffmpeg.so with the chromium one. Rebooted & no more crashes. Hope it works the same for you. ;)

Oops sorry I didn't see your last 2 messages (I didn't receive the notification e-mail, weird!).
Yes I already tried to install chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra before using its libffmpeg.so to replace slimjet's in /opt/slimjet/ and... OOOOH I just tried again, this time replacing it also in /opt/slimjet/lib/ and now it works!!!
Wow how did I not try that before... Thanks! :)

Oh, good! I only have it in opt/slimjet, no lib folder at all. But, whatever works for you. ;)

This does appear to solve the problem on Ubuntu 16.04

1) Install Chrome

2) Take the file libffmpeg.so from /usr/lib/chromium-browser/

3) Paste it to /opt/slimjet (overwrite the existing one)

4) Reboot

Its annoying that will have to do this for each and every version update. I tried making the file read-only but it still gets overwritten everytime we update Slimjet to the newer version.

Can someone write a script please that will automate this process for us?

In my case, I needed to install chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra and copy its libffmpeg.so file to /opt/slimjet/lib/ also (not only /opt/slimjet/).

I dont really think that is needed to install the extra package chromium-codecs-ffmpeg-extra

But it appears that different distros of Linux install the Chrome in different directories. In my I went to my root directory / and did a search for libffmpeg and I found there where 2 of them, one for slimjet and one for Chrome. In my case with Ubuntu 16.04 it was installed inside of /usr/lib/chromium-browser/

I think user should look inside of that directory first (after installing Chrome) and if you see the libffmpeg.so than you just need to drag and drop it into the Slimjet directory and overwrite the current one.

Here we go, I will make it even easier: I uploaded the proper libffmpeg.so to Mega for Slimjet 18.0.5.0 (based on Chromium 64.0.3282.119) (Official Build) (64-bit)

https://mega.nz/#!kSoGDbYD!Dx78uSU9XwF9 ... BMlR0ihUR0

So now you dont even need to install Chrome at all. Yay. Much appreciation to Slimjet devs, sorry for my rude tone in the opening post.

This is certainly the best alternative to Chrome

when I installed in openSuse, slimjet informed me I needed to download a specific libffmpeg.so file from 'git'(see link below), extract it, and copy it to the slimjet install directory.
The libffmpeg.so that came with the slimjet 64bit linux download is 2.9MiB, installs in the slimjet install directory, and the one that I was told to get from 'git' is 10.8MiB(unpacked)

Copied that and it REALLY messes things up for me. Not even 'Aw Snap!, Won't even allow the browser to open.

Here is the link to the slimjet instructions.
https://www.slimjet.com/en/libffmpeg.php
BUT>> so far this hasn't worked(at least for me in openSuse Leap 15.0), so don't get excited about it!

A correction to this that the github version does work for latest Slimjet is posted below.
