Slimjet Freezing up (Halfway) at random times
Hello all! I have this on going issue with Slimjet for a few weeks now and been bugging me.
Cutting straight to the problem:
Slimjet freezes up at random times. What I mean by "Halfway" is that, all the pages freeze, but i can still open tabs and click through tabs, and Youtube videos that are playing still play.
What I can't do when this happens:
I cannot interact with any active pages (Including clicking new links), and loading new Urls in new tabs are continuously loading altogether. I can't pause or play youtube videos either. It would be at this point Slimjet tells me that those pages are not responding, and gives options to either wait or kill them. (I usually choose wait). After some 10-20 seconds everything loads at once.
What I have done to attempt to fix this:
I was on the 32-bit version of Slimjet when this started happening. I reset all my settings through Slimjet's preferences. No fix. I backed up my bookmarks and deleted the profile from "C:/Users/-Username-/Appdata/Roaming/Slimjet" and restarted Slimjet. No fix. I then completely remove slimjet, removing the program, deleting the profile yet again from Roaming (And I believe from Local as well, can't remember), and installed the 64-bit version of Slimjet (Which I am on now). STILL no fix.
I am now lead to this being an internal system problem somewhere in the OS. (Which, TDSSKiller.exe does not open up either for some reason, but it opens up in safe mode . . .)
I have done SFC /Scannow and chkdsk /f C: on my system and it didn't seem to have found any issues. . .
Specs:
Windows 10 Home 64-bit
10 GB Ram
CPU: i7-4710HQ @ 2.5GHz (Turbo 3.32GHz)
GPU: GTX850M
256GB SSD Pro (Samsung) with the installed OS.
Any further information needed I will post.
Any help in solving my issue will be greatly appreciated!

my concerns, in this order
Pagefile (out of space)
RAM (maxed out)
CPU (overload)

Hello! Thank you for the reply. I've noted when these occurrences happen. . My CPU and RAM have plenty space when these freeze ups happen. However, How could I check if the Pagefile has maxed out of space?oftentired wrote:my concerns, in this order

I think you can check this in two ways.Vikutta-Perex wrote:Hello! Thank you for the reply. I've noted when these occurrences happen. . My CPU and RAM have plenty space when these freeze ups happen. However, How could I check if the Pagefile has maxed out of space?
First see if you have set a specific size limitation to your pagefile. If so change that to allow windows to decide the size or just arbitrarily double your current limitation if you do not desire to allow windows this ability.
Second, check your available space remaining on your SSD.
Also, it is possible that there is some data corruption within your pagefile. One way to deal with this is to set your page file to 200 MB min and max and restart your system. Then reset your pagefile to your previous choice and restart again. This should clear the current pagefile and return you to your status quo.
There is one more thing I forgot to list. So there should have been four. However, this is least likely because it seems like you have been saying it is only Slimjet and not your entire system freezing.
Heat (system too hot)

Thank you again for the suggestions. I have done what was suggested about the pagefiling in the Performance settings of windows. This didn't seem to fix Slimjet, as it still continues to hang and freeze up.oftentired wrote: I think you can check this in two ways.

As of recently, these occurrences are becoming more frequent.
Is there technical data that I could provide? Such as Windows Reports or something of similar events?

You didn't specify which version of Slimjet you have are running just that you switched to 64 bit
If the browser actually crashes it might generate a crash dump file report
see this post
If you have a recent crash dump file the best place to send that is with a report using the Menu > Help center > Online report webpage
Something to try. Set a custom browser cache location. If you have more than one drive put it on your fastest drive.
A long shot since you have fiddled with the profile already, but another thing to try is Speedyfox, which can clear up issues with the user profile

Re: Slimjet Freezing up (Halfway) at random times
I just set my Custom Cache location straight to C:\Slimjet Custom Cache\
(Since i will temporarily have it here until the issue is resolved, unless the issue regards this)
Custom size is 1024MB so I hope that isn't too small.
I tried that tool you suggested to me. Im not sure what it did.
The web pages are now loading some content, but then freezes up and then resumes some 20-30 seconds later again.
Problem is so strange . . .
Could it be anything to do with .net framework? (I ask because TDSSKiller doesnt run at all, only in safe mode, and SMC, a utility from MSI fails to start, giving some kinda .net framework error. I think its a message from Framework about the SMC crashing though. . )

you may be onto something with net framework, it affects so many things now
You may want to install the latest release Net Framework 4.7 offline installer and then after a restart run your windows update to see if there are any updates waiting around. Doing that should replace any critical net framework files that have gone wonky.

These are all .Net programs on my system (At least, the the ones that have the "net" in the title). I tried running that offline installer but refused to update because :

Which is incredibly confusing as I see no version 7 anywhere installed on my system.
So, should I uninstall every .net program I see in my programs list?
I was going to provide an "install.txt" attachment for a greater reference, but txt extensions are not allowed. . (Was going to take away the extension then upload, but I fear that may be breaching some rule.)

Ok try this instead.
Go to the oldest NET framework on your installed programs list, take a note of which that is, and start the uninstall, the first window that comes up should give you an option to repair. Try the repair option on that one.
I hate NET Framework issues, just saying.
