Slimjet stopped working on Toshiba Notebook Linux Mint 17.3

Worked fine until I tried to somehow find the weather-button and how to put it into the toolbar.
Couldn't find neither the button nor an instruction.

Thought I would look into Extensions on Slimjet and clicked on "look for more extensions on Chrome webstore".
That was the end.
Slimjet disappeared the instant I clicked on that option.

Doesn't start anymore.
Neither on the fast-start-button nor on the start-menu in "Internet" where programs can be started on Linux Mint.

So I purged Slimjet.
Downloaded the tar.gz for 64-bit and ran the script for the first start of Slimjet as advised.
The script is doing something, but Slimjet does not start.
The Slimjet button though is appearing on the start-menu in "Internet" as it should, but a click on it does nothing.

Purged again and downloaded the deb-64-Package (had that installed when I first found Slimjet) and it installed properly, it even puts the Slimjet-Button into the fast-start toolbar.
But Slimjet will not start as it did so smoothly before the mysterious crash.

Restarted Linux, purged an installed Slimjet again a few times, but it will not start.

What can I do now ?
