SlimJet on a Linux operating system

Post by krysto31 »

Hello, I wanted to know if SlimJet could be offered for free as the default browser on a Linux operating system?
Is there any restriction?

Then I wanted to know, for Debian you don't offer the latest version, but supposedly the most recent version for i386 deb is 45.0.2.0

Once installed, it says Version 33.0.0.0 (based on Chromium 94.0.4606.81) (Official Build) (32-bit). Because of this, there are problems playing videos on sites other than YouTube.
You might say, "Read this: https://www.slimjet.com/en/libffmpeg.php But there are many versions. I've tested about ten of them by replacing libffmpeg.so, but each time, it prevents SlimJet from launching."
So which version should we get?
Thanking you in advance.

Yes, Slimjet is available for Linux for free. No majors restrictions.

This is probably a labelling error

It's highlighted in the page
Slimjet wrote: You can download libffmpeg.so from this github project. Choose the file 0.93.0-linux-x64.zip or 0.93.0-linux-x86.zip based on the number of bits of your linux. Extract the file libffmpeg.so out of the zip archive. After that, use the following commands to copy libffmpeg.so to the Slimjet installation folder ("/opt/slimjet" on Ubuntu)

Good evening and thank you for this answer. However, if I use the libffmpeg.so Debian command here on i386, SlimJet no longer launches at all. Hence my question which version to download for the latest one available on i386.

It seems that you have a 32bit processor, in that case browse the web archive and try to find the libffmmeg.so corresponding to your version of Slimjet (and remember in this case to take the x86 version).

Let's say it would be default version on 32- and 64-bit systems, but nothing works. Either it's freshly installed and only YouTube works, or I still haven't found the right version because SlimJet no longer opens at all.

Better yet, I see that it's the same on 64-bit systems: only YouTube works, while Chromium and Firefox have no problems.
I'd like to offer SlimJet as a replacement for Firefox esr, but videos on websites need to be visible.

Try this (I don't guarantee that this will work) : https://github.com/Ld-Hagen/fix-opera-l ... peg-0.57.1
Choose the package (ia32 or x64) depending on your processor architecture

By the way, in case you're wondering “why isn't libffmpeg.so automatically included in Slimjet?”, it's because of licensing problems.

Hello, and thank you for your help. I confirm that this is indeed the correct version. In fact, you just need to know the Chromium version I specified to find it.
This time, I simply took the one that came with the installation and set it aside. The version you're suggesting is indeed the correct one. I'm putting myself in the shoes of those who will be accessing certain video sites and/or TV platforms. Does this prevent SlimJet from being offered as the default browser, in terms of licensing? Because Falkon is based on QT, simplified, while SlimJet is excellent and even slightly more resource-efficient than P.M., which is based on the old FF, so there are no ads. Personally, I replace Adblocker with Ublock Origin, which blocks and closes annoying pop-ups.

No, this does not prevent Slimjet from being configured/proposed as the default browser.

However, I'm having a major theme problem:
In /Settings/Appearance then: Slimjet Color Theme
if I choose GTK = the text selection is indeed red, but the top areas of the browser are white on an unreadable light blue background;
if I choose Slimjet Color Theme = the elements at the top of the browser are indeed dark, like on my OS, but the text selection is blue. When I finally get the selection to red, every time I restart SlimJet, the text selection is blue again.

How can I get the top area to dark mode and the selection to remain red?

Problem on 32 and 64-bit systems, LXDE and XFCE.

Edit.
In fact, if I find this light blue gradient image, I make it dark and the problem will be solved.
