Since yesterday I have been tracking the issue with the Slimjet versions 43x.x.x through 44.0.5.0 shutting-down when any new page is opened and begins to display. Today I see other users saying that a new 44.0.6.0 solves all of their problems in this regard. So far all of these commenters are using a Windows version of Slimjet.
The Linux Debian .deb install file is still labelled 44.0.5.0 but, according to a forum comment, the hash has changed so I gave it a try. The browser opens, but then immediately shuts down after starting to display a new page, e.g. Yahoo.com, so I have to assume that the fix is not yet in the Linux download as of 7AM on 27 October.

If there is a 44.0.6.0 update for Linux I would be happy to test it, but the label on the Slimjet download page still says "44.0.5.0".
One comment from yesterday evening in one of the threads mentioned that the hash had changed so that possibly a fix was slipstreamed into it, but after downloading it this morning, re-installing and testing the problem remains.

Is 46.0.6.0 coming soon for Linux?

Re: The "new" 44.0.5.0 Linux .deb download still has the shutdown issue
Hello,
I have been using Slimjet for over 3 years, first with Win10 and then definitively with Linux for over 10 years.
I was using version 44.0.2.0 and it was running very well, but even with poor performance, I believed that the updates would be good. Unfortunately, after the 43.0.9.0.deb and 44.0.5.0 updates, the problem of closing after opening any web page is constant.
In this sense, I tried several ways to understand the reason for the problem and use the updates. But even so, I still had the same problem of closing the pages and obviously Slimjet.
The final solution was to remove all 4x versions and return to version 39.0.3.0 - Chromium 111.0.5563.41 - 64 bits, which is the most stable I had.
I read about complaints and the same case as mine. So in that sense, there is something that really needs to be done with the 4x versions on Linux - 64 bits to solve the problems.
My computer:
Every time installed with *.deb, which lately has been harder to do automatically, so version 44.0.5.0 was installed with commands in Terminal.
I am absolutely certain that everyone who uses Slimjet does not want to switch to others WEB BROWSERS. So it is time to pay attention and fix the bugs in the Linux version.
To the Slimjet guys, thank you for the excellent WEB BROWSER you make!

For me it's kinda too late already, I've switched to Thorium and for most of my activities it's probably going to stay... provided I can manage to have the mouse gestures extensions to work again! (I'm still using Brave and Chrome for some secondary activities but they're not likely to become my main browser).
Thorium is closer to Chromium releases (Slimjet lags too much behind) and seems a little faster, and more importantly, doesn't have the tab preload issue that Slimjet's been having for months... so less CPU and RAM intensive (even with Slimjet's History Embedding option/flag disabled).
I miss Slimjet's built-in privacy, though... so if Slimjet comes back to the reliability level it had until 1-2 years ago, I'd be glad to eventually switch back at least for privacy-sensitive activities.

Yep, right there with you. I've been using Thorium for a few days now, and I'm liking it. I do miss a couple features that Slimjet has, but a working browser with less features is better than a crashing browser with all the features.flobou5783 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 31, 2024 7:47 amFor me it's kinda too late already, I've switched to Thorium and for most of my activities it's probably going to stay... provided I can manage to have the mouse gestures extensions to work again! Hopefully Slimjet gets back on track at some point.
