YouTube Autoplay Button turned off (grey) - yet videos start playing by themselves

YouTube Autoplay button turned grey - that in my humble understanding means "off". However, the videos start playing by themselves. Any way to turn that off in the browser settings instead of on the website?

You can fine tune it more if you add NoScript and replace the built in ad blocker with AdBlock Plus, but just the one extension may do the trick for you.

Follow up. This extension stopped working a few days ago, I think due to something YouTube has done.

I've disabled it but kept it and I'm fiddling with different extensions.
