How To Install Opera Chrome Extention

Post by SplittingDis »

Hi,

I would like to install the Opera 22 extension "Smart Rss" into SlimJet. As Opera 22 is Chrome based was expecting it to work pretty much out of the box. However, SlimJet will only allow me to install extensions from the Google Chrome store.

I know that this is one of Google's dumb ideas to "protect" us but I did not think that SlimJet would be affected by it.

Is this behaviour a bug which will be sorted out, or something Flashpeak will be unable to rectify?

And I have to say that ANY connection with Google what-so-ever will be enough to make me scurry back to Firefox / Midori rapidly.

Thanks.

OK - firstly, an apology for answering my own question! But here's my solution:

I've only tried this once and that was with an Opera (Chrome based) extension rather than a fully Chrome based extension, but I guess it should work the same.

Main Menu /Tools / Extensions - then tick Developer Mode.

Drag and Drop the Chrome extension you've previously saved (changing the suffix to .crx if necessary) and Drop it on to the Extensions Page

It should then install OK.

It will show on the Extensions page with some added info as shown here:

RSS Reader for Opera 15+! Permissions Visit website

Not from Slimjet Web Store.

Inspect views: index.html

Unlike some other 'workarounds' I've discovered this carries over restarts of Slimjet with no issues and continues working.

Good Luck.
