Taken to new tab when one shouldn't

Post by slim.moe »

In my settings page the "Open new tab from an existing tab in foreground by default" option is unchecked. Nonetheless when I click a bookmark (and some links) with the mouse's middle button/wheel, a new tab opens and I'm taken to that new tab instead of staying on the current tab which is what I want.
How do I change that?
Thank you.

Yes, click any bookmark in your bookmark bar with your mouse's middle button (if it has one).

OK, got it. This is what I'm thinking.

This is an intended feature.

"Open new tab from an existing tab in foreground by default", is a setting that applies only links from within the web content associated with the active Tab.

The bookmarks are not associated with this web content and therefore the setting does not apply to Bookmarks.

Middle click is often the same command as Ctrl + Left Click. This appears to hold true in this instance.

Shift is a toggle for this behaviour. If you mash down Shift and Left Click a link it will reverse the selected behaviour, "Open new tab from an existing tab in foreground by default"

The same holds true for the middle click mouse. If you mash down Shift and then Middle click a Bookmark it will open the webpage in the manner that you desire. I do not see a setting selection that will reverse the behaviour permanently.

Anyone who is not confused yet, I'm proud of you.

But it didn't do that in Chrome, so why here?

I think the developers (both Slimjet and the chrome team) have a choice to implement the middle click mouse feature one way or the other when they use the Blink engine. Slimjet went one way chrome went the other. I'm sure it is very annoying in this instance as you have learned an automatic hand eye mouse action that isn't as expected when using Slimjet.

Can the ability for the user to decide how the mouse's middle button behaves be added to the next version (among all the other custom Slimjet settings that already exist)?
Thank you.

I posted a Feature Request for you click here

In the meantime hold down the Shift key, before you middle mouse click a bookmark, and the page will open in a new tab in the background.

You can check through your control panel, open the Mouse menu and see if it offers options for the middle button, mine does..

Please read the above posts, my mouse is fine, we just need Slimjet to include this option among all the other custom settings that they already make available.
