"Can't load plugin" issue for XP and Vista users

Post by flashpeak »

The problem was caused by the fact that the latest version of flash plugin (flash 23) is no longer compatible with either XP or Vista. While Slimjet ships with flash 22, Slimjet was configured to update the flash plugins automatically. Therefore, the flash plugin will stop working once it is updated to flash 23.

XP users please update to 10.0.10 to solve this issue. Vista users please update to 11.0.8 to solve this issue. From now on, the auto-update of flash plugins will be disabled for XP and Vista users.

Unfortunately, this does mean XP and Vista users will have to stick with the current version of flash from now on. We don't have the source code of flash plugin. Therefore, there is nothing we can do to make the latest version of flash plugin compatible with XP or Vista.

The "can't load plugin" issue only affected Flash PPAPI 23.0.0.162, and was fixed by Adobe with the release of Flash 23.0.0.185 on October 11 (see https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/re ... xed_issues), which works perfectly on Vista with Slimjet 10.0.11.0 and 12.0.7.0. There have been two more Flash updates since then, and Slimjet users running Vista need some way to update Flash, if not automatically then manually.

For those on XP/Vista using an older version of Chrome browsers (or if there is a newer Flash Player version than what is baked into your browser(s), you can download and install the latest version from the link here:

https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb ... ndows.html

Scroll to bottom of page and right-click on the blue link labeled "Flash Player for Opera and Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI" to SAVE a copy to your computer's hard drive or removable media/thumb drive.

Once file is saved, exit any web browser(s) you have open and run the SAVED file and follow prompts to install.
NOTE: You can set Flash Player to automatically check for updates as one of the install options if you want.
