Dedicated search box not fully functional

The changelog about search box says: "Added option to show dedicated search box on the right side of the omnibox for firefox users who like to have it that way"

But the way it behaves is just like the address bar (omnibox). Once you enter the text and press enter the text inside the search box is not saved, its automatically cleared. The text entered should be saved for current and across all opened tabs that's what its main advantage is, otherwise there's no reason to use it versus omnibox. You can test this in firefox or any other chromium variant that has dedicated search box implemented. I think you accidentally set it to clear itself instead of saving all text entered.

Thanks for this amazing browser, keep up the good work!

It should also allow the search results to open up in a New Tab when performing a search in the dedicated search box, otherwise it's just as @illusionofchoice said.

That depends on the setting "Auto create new tab when a url is entered". If the setting is on, it will automatically open a new tab.
When the setting is off, you can hold down ALT key to force it to open in a new tab.
