7.0.3 - 7.0.7 x64 Linux (.deb) won't open

For tar.xz archive, you just unpack it into any folder you like. If it doesn't work for you, just remove it the folder.
The command line is:

>tar xvf filename.tar.xz

Thank you. Could someone run through the correct install procedure for tar.xz? I want this to end up in the correct folder, and not to mess up my system.

edit: and also how to uninstall it if it doesn't work.
