Since the Version 31.0.2.0 update every time I start SlimJet there is a notice saying it crashed although I always close properly. I then I have to reconfigure to enable cleaning all on exit and to get rid of the annoying Chrome/Google page that appears as a new tab page instead of the blank I set.

If I wanted Chrome I'd get it. If I wanted my life controlled by Google I'd get Chrome. The reason I use Slimjet is because I want to control the browser, It was the huge advantage of Slimjet and now, it seems that's gone. I've raised the issue - no response. I've filled in the crash report - no response. Looks like I'll have to move on

Have you tried disabling all that Google stuff in the Preferences?

Yes. Then after the crash that was not it's all back and I have to reconfigure. I also tried repairing the registry settings. I suppose the answer is to go back to a stable less Googly one and disable updates.
