Question: Will this improve performance with YouTube? Other expected benefits?

Thank you.

HVEC is a video compression improving on the MPG4 compression that has been widely used for several years. It has potential to improve performance on all video platforms, assuming it is being used. I think the use of the HVEC should be invisible to the end user as I am certain browsers will retain the previous methods for "legacy" video compression/decompression.

I am not thinking it will resolve any current issues certain Slimjet platforms have with video. However, I may be mistaken; and hope that I am mistaken.

OK I'm there now.

These days Slimjet is me YouTube browser (with appropriate customization) so we'll see.
