Version 32 general discussion

Post by Passenger »

Just upgraded after carefully optimizing various settings (with an eye toward security paranoia).

I had previously reverted to 29 and skipped a few versions because of various problems, but back on track.

Tests:

Customizations which I lost when I reverted to 29 are back with no trouble.
Some of my customizations are now the default, others merely preserved the flag settings that 29 did not use.

Still not FLoCed ==> https://amifloced.org/

All previous complained about bugs fixed.
Not just complained here in the forum, used the feedback form with detailed technical observations.
https://www.slimjet.com/en/onlinefb.htm

I'd like it better if there were more communication about bug fixes.

Not a bug, but an OK undocumented change:
When closing the last window with a lot of tabs open, I get this little message box:

Image

Note: I have Slimjet explicitly configured to clear history on exit, YMMV.
Doesn't show this when clearing history manually.

There was previously a bug related to memory handling that made it hang when closing the last window, but this feature doesn't seem to be a cover for that because it zips by quickly.

Is there a flag to suppress this message?

Edited to combine posts after testing.

My guess would be that the coding oversight, or possibly actual bug, is that the communication window telling you it is cleaning is missing when performed manually. I doubt there is an easy way to suppress it.

Not a problem, not even an annoyance, I just like to know how everything works.

Just did my weekly user profile backup.
I am happy to report no bloat with the new version.

I wish the saving of passwords was back on track.

I know people like it, but I think it's really bad security to have the browser save passwords.
But then I'm a bit of a paranoid about security.

Just updated to 32.0.2.0.
As I don't use the built in ad blocker, I really didn't need it, but just for giggles I went and used the in-browser updater to see if that's fixed.
Nope.

So I downloaded the installer and updated that way (which is what I've been doing for a while).
BTW, same story with updating Brave, so I suspect a Chrome problem (or at least some incompatibility in my setup).
No worries.

Oh...wonderful. Since you can no longer remove the tab search icon:
https://www.howtogeek.com/722640/how-to ... -in-chrome

We're stuck with:

So, obviously, this needs to be a Slimjet option now, since it doesn't appear that it's going to happen in Chromium again.

BTW, in the previous thread, someone said (in answer to the question of how you get a list of tabs in Slimjet if you disable the above feature, which was still possible to do then):

"If you look at the main menu bar, the Tab item is between Profiles and Window."

But...Slimjet doesn't have a main menu bar. What is he talking about?

Since last update, much shorter duration of this on close:

So there was a problem only partially fixed before.

Really the devs should be more transparent about minor bug fixes.
