Reading List

The Reading List feature was introduced by the Chromium team with version 89 and further developed from that point forward. With version 90 they introduced a toggle to turn it off and on as some users don't want to see it.

The Reading List allows you to collect and organize links to various websites, and check them later. It works like an advanced bookmark manager. I've not used it much, but when I go on a massive internet research jag now and then, I can see where it would be really handy as I end up saving way too many bookmarks that I never use again.

To use it you click the Star Bookmark icon and select Add to reading list. After you have compiled your list, you click on the Reading List Icon that is part of the Bookmark bar to open up a menu style list.

You can toggle this feature off and on by right clicking the Bookmarks bar and checking or unchecking the Reading List entry.

If you don’t see it, make sure the Bookmarks Bar is visible. A quick way to bring it up is to use the Ctrl+Shift+B (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+B (macOS) keyboard shortcut. Or you can click the menu button on the upper-right corner of the browser. Then go to Bookmarks > Show bookmarks bar.

A very nice way of implementing what I had previously improvised by having a 'temp' folder on my bookmarks bar.

A long time ago Netscape had something similar as a sidebar that was intrusive to turn on and off.
Early Firefox had an add-on to implement it, but it died from lack of interest.

Now that I'm up to date on versions and have re-enabled this feature, I am learning to like it.

Downside: One extra click to add a bookmark from the Omnibox.

Upside: If the bookmark was to be to my 'temp' folder, just one click instead of all the rigmarole of adding a proper bookmark.
