Giving Opera a whirl.

I don't expect it to be one of my regular browsers, but I'm intrigued by the built in VPN.

Report on Opera:

By this test: https://html5test.com/

Not as up to speed as Slimjet, with a score of 474 to Slimjet's 523.

I like the VPN feature.

I will keep it, but as I expected not making it my default.

Slimjet totally deleted, including data. Then ...

1) Slimjet reinstalled clean.
2) Import my bookmarks from Brave.
3) Using the native ad-blocker with a few of my custom filters. We'll see if that's enough.
4) Tweak a few cosmetic settings.

No more extensively worked over mess.
Performance much snappier now. Considering coming home.

Extensions: Just the YouTube stuff.

Inventory
Brave (still default for now)
Slimjet
Opera
Tor

What each does that the others simply do not
Brave -- Torrents run in browser. Sort of does Tor.
Slimjet -- YouTube downloads.
Opera -- VPN
Tor -- Properly does Tor.

Vivaldi has been my main browser for a long time, and Slimjet was my secondary, but now that Slimjet has made their bookmark sidebar unusable I only use it for special purposes, namely downloading youtubes.

What browsers have good old fashioned bookmark sidebars besides Vivaldi?

Both SeaMonkey and Pale Moon can show bookmarks in the sidebar.

Thank you, but - I downloaded Sea Monkey but quickly deleted it because i couldn't find an option for a bookmark sidebar. Then I downloaded Pale Moon. It looks the same as Sea Monkey so I deleted it too.

I hope nothing happens to Vivaldi.

In general, Chromium based browsers don't do bookmarks in the sidebar, though Opera is modified to allow that (not by default).

OK, Opera has it, plus a free VPN. It was my favorite browser years ago, until they messed it up. Thanks.

How did they mess it up? I use it when I need the VPN.

In general every browser is some sort of trade off.
