Support for h.264, AAC and mp3 codec now available in 3.1.0

Post by flashpeak »

Support for h.264, AAC and mp3 codec is now available in 3.1.0.0 beta. You guys are welcome to download it and have a test drive with it. The codec support is only available for Windows Vista (excluding Vista Starter edition) or later since it relies on the codec shipped with Windows.

That means you can now play Netflix without installing silverlight plugin. You can play all the videos on youtube without the flash plugin.

Tested on youtube and netflix various videos, everything worked so nice to be able to view vids at 60fps :) Even tried a few mp3 from this topic viewtopic.php?f=5&t=156 which now works.
Nice job gentlemen.

Side note for anyone who may need a codec pack i use Shark's codec pack for windows http://shark007.net/ which is a great pack and doesn't cause problems like k lite or cccp packs within windows.

They don't update as Chrome does as there can be issues in stability of the browser plus there is no great difference in the latest chrome release apart from the broken password manager which doesn't affect slimjet as they have their own one.
We tend to get an update if the latest version in chrome fixes a lot of security bugs and if the devs here have had time to add their own features to it which is great for users as we get a stable browser to use in the meantime while we wait for a new release.

We have chosen to sync with Chromium every two major releases. It takes us at least two weeks time to do a version sync with Chrome. There is a lot of testing to be done after each sync to ensure things don't break. If we try to follow up every Chrome major release, we won't have any time left for adding useful features.

We believe the Google guys will release Chrome 42 pretty soon. We will catch up by that time. We will not do version sync on Chrome 41.
