Norton 2014 blocks use of Slimjet

I disabled both the Norton Firewall and the Antivirus and still had the problem.

Was the system completely cleansed of any previous antivirus or firewall before Norton was installed? Most companies have extra uninstall utilities that do that. There could be a residual hook that is gumming things up.

Try using the Norton Removal Tool.

I'm wondering if slimjet has been put in norton's quarantine which stops it from running even if you disable norton's features.
Plus as paul says previous installed security software may be causing the problem so here is a list just in case http://www.bitdefender.com/support/remo ... -1107.html.
http://www.iobit.com/advanceduninstaller.html is a great free program that will do the job too, it can search for previously installed software and remove any traces left over.
