Prying eyes of Slimjet!!

Post by saurabhdua »

:ugeek:

O dear Slimjet Author - Don't be evil !

This is best expression I can quote from Google in response to the 'snooping' activities of Slimjet!

Please refer to the enclosed Screen representation & help dispel/quell the discomfort surrounding this 'poking' stance of Slimjet - wherein it is always able to identify the end user's transition to prominent portals such as - Facebook, Amazon, redfinn etc. etc. !!? ..& then populate the Address-bar of the browser with the respective favicons!

End user's discretion is sidelined entirely during this 'Nosy' ploy & all these favicons are thrust upon - without taking us into Confidence, without our Consent, without our approval!

Despicable..you see !!

Therefore, Pl bring a massive overhaul to this approach of overseeing user's Online behavior with impunity & uphold & safeguard his/her 'Privacy' - the foremost!

Thank you.

ok now i'm done laughing. That was too funny.

Here is a question for the OP. If Slimjet was not free to use, would you pay for it?

Quote a single example towards the PAID browsing!? Web-Browsers are supposed to be FREE only! Who told you that the end users gonna pay for a Web-browser? :o Its a WEIRD argument altogether! :?

The other Browsers which do not resort to such tactics, being PAID somehow??...& that too by the end users??

The tagline of 'Slimjet' upholds User's Privacy - the foremost! ... then why part with the insidious details f Browsing habits?

Do other Web-browsers from Independent makers like - Stephan Cheng, smear one's toolbar to such an extent & spot on!?

NO....they Don't!

Time to introspect please!! ...else, change the 'Tagline' to say the least !! :(

Any Microsoft OS bundled Browser after you paid for the OS example, Explorer and Edge
Google Chrome is paid for indirectly from Googles advertising connections
Safari, bundled with Mac OS, is not free, if you purchased the PC/OS

Over the years they have been popular browsers used by many. And, even if not used, were still paid for.

Here is the developer response made in another post which I quote below.
flashpeak wrote:It is a one time thing. You can remove it and it will never come back.

The Amazon button gives you quick access to the amazon website and supports our development efforts. We are doing the same thing for eBay as well. Both eBay and amazon are our sponsors. The software is free and we don't really show any annoying ads. We do rely on the referring commission to keep ends meet here.

We also automatically recommend the Facebook button and the weather button when the user visits related sites. But that has nothing to do with money. It is solely for the purpose of feature recommendation. If we don't recommend these features, most users won't even know the features exist at all. People would think we are just the same as Chrome but for these hidden features. One of the problem with Chrome is that they make a lot of features available through hidden features. But the reality is that only less than 1% of people will be able to find those features by doing their research online. We don't want to make the same mistakes. We make a useful feature and recommend it to people who will mostly likely need it.

However, we never force anything on people. All the feature recommendations happen only once. If you are not interested in it, just revert it. With Slimjet, you always have options.

Thanks for your understanding.
It is not exactly true that it never comes back. But, it only comes back with major upgrades or fresh installations after it has been reset and the browser doesn't realize it has already been done once.

Now back to the actual topic of this thread.

Slimjet does not invade your privacy. None of your personal information is compromised by Slimjet in the process of determining that you visited the website for the first time in order for the ebay and amazon icons to be automatically moved to the toolbar. Your assertion that privacy is compromised is wrong. Visiting ebay or amazon using those icons does not invade or compromise your private information.

Hello oftentired!

I acknowledge the above narrative & would like you to shed more light on this 'Browsing monitoring' sense of Slimjet which make those favicons/prompts pop-up spot on! while making the transition to your Sponsors sites!?

Please also refer to - viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1578 & clarify if it has nothing to do with such surreptitious marketing ploys?

Are both instances Independent & Exclusive to each other?? or is there a nefarious connection b/w the two??
