HTTPS Connection Issues In Linux

Post by rprprprpx »

OS:
Ubuntu 16.04, 64bit (all updates regularly applied)

Slimjet (.deb installation, 64bit):
12.0.9.0
12.0.10.0

Issue:
SOME https sites give me the screen with the Red Padlock and "Your connection is not private". Not all https sites result in this. A few do give this issue. Most do not. I can't really use Slimjet now because throughout my work day, while several https sites work fine, I "randomly" run into https sites that I need but that won't display. (I've tried the "ADVANCED > Proceed to ... but the site doesn't load all contents and layout as normal, so not really useful.)

This started approx 3 or 4 days back or so while I was using Slimjet 12.0.9.0. Today I updated to 12.0.10.0 but no change in behavior. I had never experienced this issue in the past with Slimjet (or any other browser). I've been using Slimjet for several months now.

The issue does not occur with other browsers I have installed (Google Chrome, Opera, Firefox). Naturally, I have tested these browsers with the sites that DO give issue in Slimjet.

Thanks.

Good to know, and thanks for your reply.

It would have been nice nice to hear that or something similar from Slimjet days ago. As I've said before here - and many times on the Linux Mint forum - Slimjet is my favourite browser to use, but the way Slimjet has handled this is not inspiring. Not even commenting that they know of the issue and are working on it, or something. But just letting it go on for days as if nothing is wrong is, well to repeat - not inspiring.

PS - My Chromium Browser is Version 53.0.2785.143 Built on Ubuntu , running on LinuxMint 18 (64-bit). It however works right, even though it is still at version 53. Chrome is at V. 55.
And I'll say what has been said already on this forum, this is a Slimjet User to User Help forum, it is not a Slimjet developer help site. I have not paid for this browser nor have I paid for tech support regarding it. I have ZERO expectation that a developer will meet my personal needs regarding my use of Slimjet and any problems I may encounter. My expectation is that the developers will do what they can when they can regarding the needs of users while they are busy working at the jobs that feed and cloth and house them and their families, all at the same time, developing Slimjet for free in what amounts to spare time.
For those of you who wear aluminum foil hats, the voices lie, don't believe them!
Mostly my replies are about Windows OS. If not I try to remember to specify Linux.

OK, thanks for that & sorry to the developers of Slimjet. I did not know Slimjet was a hobby project, I had just wrongly assumed it was a professional project. This is what happens when you assume  .

For my requirements. I guess that means I will have to switch to a professionally maintained browser. Thanks again.

I would not go so far as to describe it as a hobby. The Flashpeak people are professional programmers and they have put a very significant amount of time and effort into the browsers that they have worked on over the years. It would be accurate to describe their maintenance of Slimjet as professional. While I share the general opinion that they could be more visible on the forum, if you are using a free product the expectation of on demand tech support is unrealistic. I know they read the forum and they try to address problems that are brought to their attention.

Just posting to confirm this is an issue for me as well, using x64 on Kubuntu 16.10. Many pages have strange errors related to 'Your connection is not private', even if it says the certificate is fine. Trello, Npr.org, and probably many more. MOST DEFINITELY AN ISSUE WITH SLIMJET AND NOTHING ELSE!!!! DEVELOPERS, PLEASE DON'T ACT LIKE THIS IS ANYTHING BUT A HUGE SLIMJET BUG!!!
