Facebook is always tinkering. The developer of Social Fixer has recently totally rewritten his program so that it is not affected so much by Facebook's changes.

Prior to 2011 the toolbar did not stay put at the top, but in 2011 user feedback caused them to re-write the webpage code to stick the toolbar to the top of the page, prior to this some extensions were developed that would stick it for you.DaveHawley wrote:Thank you, I'll certainly try that out!

Which makes me wonder even more why the toolbar still apparently isn't locked on some browsers!
Anyway, thanks for all the help, I've now installed the F.B. Purity extension which seems to have fixed the problem.
All I need now is to find why the videos in my news feed aren't automatically playing any more, but that's another thread!
