can't save custom cache size

I'm running Slimjet on Ubuntu 14.04, which is installed on a SSD. I've read that browser performance can be improved (or be better for the SSD) by disabling the cache. So I went into the settings and selected "custom cache size", and entered the value of "0". I restarted SJ, but when I checked the settings the custom cache setting was disabled again. Why won't it save? (I tried this several times and each time SJ disables the setting.)
