It turned out copying my bookmarks was non specific to linux.

In Cog symbol > Bookmarks > Bookmarks Manager copy the Bookmarks bar and other bookmarks and copy to the other machine (say using a USB stick) - simple (I had to try it a time or two to get it just right!).
